Paving the way for AfroScandinavian fashion
I didn't choose the name ASAKU simply because it's my middle name. My family and I belong to the Bembe people, one of the many Bantu ethnic groups native to Central Africa.
ASAKU is a Bembe name derived from the verb "i sakola", which means "to clear a path" or "to make way". It symbolizes someone who paves the way for others.
My father has always been an ASAKU to me. He was a tailor and the person who introduced me to African fashion. From the day he taught me how to use a sewing machine, I fell in love with creating unique garments that reflect my dual heritage. Both Scandinavian and African.
I created ASAKU to offer a fresh perspective where African heritage meets Scandinavian design. I'm paving the way for Afro-Scandinavian fashion, while also doing my best to rescue people from boring outfits.
